The Eden Project which opened March 2000 has been a wonderful success, now has
worldwide status and is visited by people from all over the world.
The Biomes, The Humid Tropic Biome and the Temperate Biome are built into an old
clay pit, called Bodelva, which was chosen for it's southerly aspect. In the
third biome (the outside area) grow wonderful plants such as Sunflowers,
Lavender, Cannas and Agapanthus, Sweet Peas and Dahlias, to name but a few.
Bulb Mania (where at least a million bulbs are planted) begin to bloom in
January, with many varieties of early daffodils and crocus, followed by
hyacinths, narcissus, anemones and many different tulips all colours of the
rainbow and varieties of shapes - Thousands of grape hyacinths are planted on
the rooftop between the two biomes - a wonderful 'haze of blue' the whole
effect a colourful extravaganza
The Education Centre called the Core was opened by Her Majesty the Queen - it
has a cafe on the deck
The Ice Rink opens in October for half-term and closes end of
February

The Lost Gardens of Heligan
The Garden that has it all - with it's magic and appeal - has re-kindled and
started a 'trend' for re-discovering, finding and restoring Victorian gardens
in Britain. Heligan sits in a valley close to Mevagissey. It's appeal will draw
you back many times. The gardens, which are very relaxing, have a variety of
walks, including the Jungle and The Lost Valley, with it's misty lakes and
luxuriant foliage.
January or even December sees the first camellias, and early hybrid
rhododendrons and azaleas in early Spring, with wonderful drifts of daffodils
around every corner. Clusters of primroses with violets and bluebells herald
the beginning of the early Cornish Springtime. The very productive
vegetable garden, where are grown many Victorian varieties of vegetables,
starts coming alive with the magnificent apple arch covered profusely in
a pink haze of blossoms. All the 'seasons' at Heligan provide you with many
surprises.
